I Am Broad Ripple

A manifesto for the communal culture that is Broad Ripple

Broad Ripple. A community founded on the hardened feet of wandering travelers. Annexed into the city of Indianapolis in 1922, it became home to so many with an eye for magic when only dirt and flesh could be seen. For those whose wanderlust had led them to find a cradle for their creativity. This is the spirit of Broad Ripple. This is what we wish to reconnect with.
Founded in the wee hours following a local poetry open mic, Vocab, “I am Broad Ripple” encompasses the vision of village residents to revitalize the artistry and familial gathering that has drawn so many in. While the libations have, and will continue to flow, it is the camaraderie that lasts far longer than a rough morning. At our village campfire sits painters, writers, builders, academia, suits, sandals, and countless walks of life in between.
“I am Broad Ripple” aims to bring all these groups together to celebrate the history that has created what exists today, the ambience we enjoy now, and the foundation we are continuing to lay for the future. All are welcome here in Broad Ripple. Outsiders are merely those who don’t know that we have already accepted them. That is how it began, and it is an ideal we will strive for endlessly
