I grew up in a small town in Kansas where there, surprisingly, wasn't a strong sense of community around me. I moved to Broad Ripple in 2013 and found what I was looking for. Like-minded people who value community, culture and the arts.

Since moving here, I have gotten involved in a few different groups and even started some of my own projects. I manage the social media for I Am Broad Ripple in addition doing a number of the interviews for our Spotlight Saturday segment. I also work with Distelrath Farms aiding them in their efforts to build their very own school that will open later this year.

As far as personal projects, I have a few raised beds for gardening, many pets including a small backyard flock of hens, and I manage my own social media including a blog, Facebook and Instagram page at The Porter Farm.

5 places I love in Broad Ripple:

  1. The Good Earth

This was one of the first places I found when I moved here. Not only are the prices great, but the staff is even better. They are so helpful and kind and I have felt welcome since I first walked in two years ago.

  2. Agrarian Urban Farm Store

My sweet hens came from here and I frequent this store for their helpful classes and to get the supplies I need for my flock. They are so knowledgeable and they even help carry those heavy bags of feed to your car for you.

  3. Pitaya & Niche

I can’t just stop by one of them. If I go into one I have to go into the other. They each have their own unique items that I love and I always find something perfect!

  4. The Vogue

I am always surprised by the amount of amazing shows this place brings to town. Being from a small town, I still feel spoiled when I hear these big names coming to a venue that’s less than ten minutes away from my house.

  5. Locally Grown Gardens

Another one of the first places I stumbled upon when I moved here. For dinner outdoors or to stop in to grab a quick cup of coffee, I always feel welcome!

Broad Ripple has been a mecca for my growth. It has brought so many amazing people into my life and I want nothing more than to help it grow and maintain its uniqueness. I Am Broad Ripple is a group that is near and dear to my heart and is doing just that.
